Proficiencies

Proficiencies, not classes

The tracks we can name, the perks we can source, and the parts of the tree that are still beta or unpublished.

The short version

Loftia uses proficiencies, not fixed classes. You level a track by doing the activity, then invest points in perks. The demo caps every track at Level 5; Early Access goes further. The official pages do not publish a full perk tree or XP table.

What a proficiency is

Proficiencies are activity tracks. The official Early Access page names Farming, Crafting, Cooking and Fishing as examples, then adds “or something else” — so that list is not exhaustive. The demo also tracks Salvaging and Foraging, and a community beta index lists Community, Repairing and Research, with a separate Adventure page.

This is not a class system. You do not pick a rogue or a chef at character creation; you level what you spend time doing. That makes the track list a description of activities, not a build guide.

Official examples first, then demo and community beta tracks. The beta index is not an official class list.

Level 5 in the demo, further in Early Access

The demo caps proficiencies at Level 5. Early Access takes them “much further than the demo’s Level 5 cap,” according to the official Early Access page. The demo allows one character per account; after Early Access begins you can create multiple characters.

That cap matters for planning: a demo guide cannot tell you the best long-term perk order, because the demo stops before most of the tree opens. Treat any “best build” written from the demo as a demo-only opinion.

Effort and Inspiration (beta)

A community beta database describes two perk currencies: Effort for most unlocks and Inspiration for stronger perks. Effort rises in tiers; Inspiration starts contributing around Level 10.

Beta data from the community proficiency database. Values are not official launch numbers.

Levels 10–1415Starts contributing

The same database lists Double Dish at 5 Inspiration at Level 11. That is the only exact Inspiration cost we have reproduced; the rest of the tree is not verified.

Perks we can source

These are examples, not a complete tree. Every row is beta data unless the source says otherwise.

Beta perk examples from the community proficiency database. Names, effects and costs may change at Early Access.

Two things stand out. First, most perks are small multipliers, not new systems: faster bites, refunded ingredients, extra timer seconds. Second, the strongest documented perk for money is the cooking refund, because it changes the input cost of every dish rather than the output of one action.

No tier list

We do not publish a “best proficiency” ranking. The launch cap, the full tree and the Early Access XP values are not verified. The proficiency planner builds a session route without inventing numbers.

How to choose a track

  1. Pick the track your current goal needs. If you are short on Dew, Farming and Cooking feed the shipping bin; if you are blocked on a station, Crafting and Salvaging feed the upgrade.
  2. Do not spread across every track. The demo cap is 5; Early Access rewards depth, but the exact curve is unpublished.
  3. Check Progression each session. The demo’s Progression tab is under Esc; Expanded Chest sits in the crafting section.
  4. Use the planner for time, not math. It selects activities; it does not calculate XP.

What is not published

  • The complete proficiency list and which tracks are available at launch.
  • The full perk tree, perk prerequisites and all Inspiration costs.
  • XP-to-next and cumulative XP for Early Access.
  • Whether perks can be reset, and at what cost.
  • Whether the beta Community/Repairing tracks ship unchanged.

Sources and checks

Checked 2026-10-24. Factual claims are drawn from the sources below; demo and beta values are labelled because they may change at Early Access. Recommendations are ours.

Official proficiency framing; demo cap and tracks from official/demo sources; all perk effects and costs are beta data and labelled.

We do not publish a recipe, price, stat or mechanic without a source. If something is missing, it is marked unverified rather than guessed.
