Crafting in Loftia
Five station families, battery charges, early tools and the first upgrade that matters.
Crafting runs on stations and battery charges. The five station families are Projects, Tailoring, Cooking, Carpentry, and Recycling & Refining. Your first tools are the Hammer, Pruner and Watering Can; the Urbex tool arrives with the Gridfall in Early Access.
The five station families
Beta data groups crafting into five station categories. The names matter because each one feeds a different part of the loop:
| Station family | What it covers | Why you use it |
|---|---|---|
| Projects | Garden beds, tools, stations and placeables | Unlocks the rest of the crafting loop |
| Tailoring | Clothing and outfit pieces | Cosmetics and clothing fragments |
| Cooking | Dishes and drinks | Turns crops into higher-value food |
| Carpentry | Furniture and home items | Housing and decoration |
| Recycling & Refining | Bars, leather and processed materials | Turns salvage into craft inputs and Dew |
Battery is the real budget
Every craft and every dish spends a battery charge. The battery starts with five charges; some crafts, including the workstation upgrade, need seven or more. That is why the first upgrade is a gate, not a convenience.
The reported Battery Lv.2 route: salvage Scrap Wire, prune Portobello Mushrooms, refine them into Mushroom Leather (about 30 seconds each), then craft the new battery with the current battery, wire and leather. Capacity doubles.
Power comes from a Small Solar Panel early on; the Project Station Lv.2 adds water power that works in any weather. Solar keeps charging while you are offline. The 21 October demo patch increased solar output in rain and at night.
First tools and what they open
| Tool | Source | Opens |
|---|---|---|
| Hammer | Almost immediately in the opening quests | Crates, boxes, tires, scrap heaps; raises Salvaging |
| Pruner | Craft when the recipe appears | Wild plants and mushrooms; raises Foraging |
| Watering Can | Part of the opening tool set | Watering garden beds; prevents stalled growth |
| Urbex tool | Early Access, Gridfall | Urban Exploration; collects rare resources underground |
Early materials
Most early recipes use salvaged discards rather than mined ore. The reported staples are:
| Material | Where it comes from | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Plastic discards | Salvage crates and city scrap | Early recipes and placeables |
| Screws | Salvage crates and scrap heaps | Tools and station repairs |
| Metal scraps | Salvage | Tools, bars and upgrades |
| Tires | Salvage | Recipes and refining |
| Scrap wood | Salvage | Carpentry and placeables |
| Scrap wire | Salvage | Battery Lv.2 |
| Portobello mushrooms | Pruning wild mushrooms | Mushroom Leather |
| Clay | Gathering | Early crafting; storage cap example was 20 |
Refining
| Recipe | Input | Output | Time | Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Copper Bar | 5 Copper Scraps | 1 Copper Bar | About 30 seconds | Sells for 55 Dew |
| Aluminium Bar | Bauxite ore | 1 Aluminium Bar | Not published | Sells for 55 Dew |
| Mushroom Leather | Portobello Mushrooms | Mushroom Leather | About 30 seconds each | Battery upgrade input |
Station upgrades and permits
Amani sells permits for processing stations: 1 → 2 costs 300 Dew, then 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000 for the later tiers in beta data. A second energy station costs 200 Dew and is usually the better first purchase. The Project Station upgrade is a craft that consumes battery charges, not a Dew-only permit.
Do not build a station you cannot power. A station that sits idle because the battery is empty is worse than a smaller setup that runs every session.
Perks that matter for crafting
- Expanded Chest — raises item caps. It sits under the crafting section of Progression.
- Double Hammer materials — a chance for doubled salvage from Hammer nodes (beta-reported).
- 50% bonus XP chance — a 20% chance of 50% extra proficiency XP (beta-reported).
- Ingredient refund — a cooking perk, not a crafting one, but it changes the economics of every dish.
Full recipe quantities, exact station upgrade costs, tool durability and the complete material list are not published. The five station names and the recipes above are beta data. We do not fill in the missing quantities.
A sane crafting order
- Hammer and Pruner.
- Watering Can and a water station by your crops.
- Battery Lv.2.
- A second energy station (200 Dew permit).
- Processing station, then the first garden-bed upgrade (40 Dew).
- Whatever your current quest actually asks for.
