Your first days in Loftia

The opening quest chain, the three tools, the battery upgrade and the first Dew — without pretending beta values are launch values.

The short version

Start with Pebble’s questline in Loftia City. Get the Hammer, Pruner and Watering Can, upgrade the battery when you can, and put your first Dew into a second garden bed. The demo stops before the Hanging Gardens; Early Access continues on 3 November.

Before you start: which build are you playing?

The demo is a Steam Next Fest build that runs from 19 to 26 October 2026. It covers the opening of Loftia City and ends just before the Hanging Gardens. Early Access starts on 3 November 2026 and adds the rest of the three-region storyline, pets, hydroponics and a higher proficiency cap.

Demo progress carries into Early Access, but only if you link your Loftia website account with the email you use in-game. The demo allows one character per account; after Early Access begins you can create multiple characters. A character name claimed in the demo is released if you do not log into Early Access between 3 November 2026 and 3 February 2027.

What carries over

Completed quests, collected items and character progression carry over when you link your account. Without the link, the developers say they cannot recover rewards or progress.

The first 30 minutes

  1. Create your character and claim a name. The demo allows one character per account.
  2. Enter the Player Neighborhood. This unlocks the Demo Banner and happens within roughly the first ten minutes of the demo.
  3. Follow Pebble. The opening chain gives you the plot, the Hammer and the first quests. Talk to every NPC you pass; side quests can award items, blueprints and Adventures.
  4. Meet Hazel and plant something. Your plot has starter materials and a storage chest. Plant carrot seeds when the quest gives them to you.
  5. Open Progression. Press Esc and look at the Progression tab. That is where perk points go.
  6. Open the map. Press M. The map starts clouded and reveals as you explore; key NPCs and quest markers appear on it.

Opening quest order

The demo’s opening chain is short. This is the order reported from the demo, with the giver and location where known:

The quest table reaches the Hanging Gardens, but the demo ends just before that district. Early Access continues the chain.

The three tools that matter first

Early tools reported from the demo.
ToolWhat it doesWhy it matters
HammerSmashes crates, boxes, tires and scrap heapsRaises Salvaging and supplies early materials
PrunerHarvests wild plants and mushroomsRaises Foraging; Portobello mushrooms feed the battery upgrade
Watering CanWaters garden bedsDry soil stalls crops; rain is the only alternative

Hold R for the tool wheel to swap or remove tools, seeds and toys. In the demo, tap R to cycle quick slots. B opens the inventory and lets you place plot items.

Battery and the first upgrade

The battery is the budget behind every craft and every dish. It starts with five charges. Some crafts, including the workstation upgrade, need seven or more, so the first battery upgrade is a real gate.

The reported route to Battery Lv.2:

  1. Salvage Scrap Wire.
  2. Prune Portobello Mushrooms.
  3. Refine them into Mushroom Leather (about 30 seconds each).
  4. Craft Battery Lv.2 with the current battery, scrap wire and mushroom leather. Capacity doubles.

A Small Solar Panel is the early power source. The Project Station Lv.2 adds water power that works in any weather. Solar keeps charging while you are away, so start a refining or crafting batch before you log off. The 21 October demo patch also increased solar output in rain and at night.

Beta and demo values

The five-charge battery, the Battery Lv.2 recipe and the 30-second refine time come from a guide built on the April 2026 closed beta and checked against demo footage. Treat them as planning values, not launch guarantees.

Your first Dew

Dew is the currency. Sell crops, cooked food and refined bars through the shipping bin on your plot. Shift+click moves a whole stack. Seeds come from Hazel; permits come from Amani.

PineappleSeed 20 Dew100 DewAbout 6 hours to grow

The demo shows each crop’s sale value in Hazel’s shop; the beta shop did not. Early Access values may differ.

Practical first purchases: the first garden-bed upgrade costs 40 Dew; a second energy station costs 200 Dew. Both are beta permit costs. Do not spend your first Dew on decoration if your battery is still Level 1.

Storage, permissions and the neighborhood

Your plot starts with a storage chest that sorts items into categories automatically. Items have caps — 20 Clay was an early example — and the Expanded Chest perk raises them. A neighbor’s plot has its own starter-material copy; taking their duplicate only removes it on your side.

Before you invite anyone over, set permissions. In the demo: B → Tab (or X on a controller) → V. Set the plot private or friends-only if you do not want harvesting, and block visitors from using your energy stations or farm. Visitors can drain power. You can also remove visitors from the same menu.

What to do on day two

  • Check Progression and spend perk points. Expanded Chest sits under the crafting section.
  • Do Amani’s daily quest and check the current World Project. Project Bot and Jun accept daily donations for limited cosmetics.
  • Look for butterfly-marked Datapads; they contain lore and are tracked in Collections.
  • Try the Pebble-athon in Pebble Park for emotes and the beach-ball minigame.
  • Start a crop or refining batch before you log off. Real-time timers keep running.

Common early mistakes

  • Letting soil dry out. Crops stall without water; rain waters automatically, but do not rely on it.
  • Selling everything raw. Cooking roughly doubles crop value in the beta data, and a smoothie is the demo’s cherry sink.
  • Building before the battery. Every craft and dish spends a charge; a bigger battery unlocks the next tier of work.
  • Ignoring the tool wheel. If you cannot plant, you may be holding the wrong tool or seed. Hold R.
  • Opening the plot to everyone. Guests can harvest and drain power until you change permissions.
  • Planting more than your permits allow. Garden beds, trellises and tree plots are capped until Amani sells you the next permit.
